Open-Heart Surgery - A Triple Threat

Abstract

The author has made some preliminary studies of the emotional trauma accompanying open-heart surgery, the incidence of postoperative psychoses and other psychiatric complications. He suggests that preoperative evaluation of the patient from the psychologic viewpoint, and his education in the objectives and anticipated results of the proposed operation need emphasis.
