Recurrent Posttraumatic Dislocation of the Hip in Children

Authors: RAY L. SIMMONS, MD, JACK D. ELDER, MD

Abstract

Children under the age of five may show traumatic dislocation of the hip joint as a result of minimal trauma. The initial treatment should be the mobilization in plaster with the extremity in extension, abduction and external rotation. If the dislocation recurs, surgical exploration of the posterior capsule and repair of the relaxed or torn capsule is recommended.
