Letter to the Editor

Response to Drs. Bryant and Mycyk Regarding Pet Medication Poisoning

Authors: Khaled Ashawesh, MRCP

Abstract

To the Editor:

We thank Bryant and Mycyk for their comments on our letter which was published in the August 2007 issue of the SMJ.1 We would like to clarify that the aim of our letter was to describe the first case report in which a pet’s antiepileptic drug (phenobarbitone) was deliberately used for self poisoning. We are aware of the few previous reports of human overdose with different pet medications, but to our knowledge, deliberate self-poisoning with a pet’s antiepileptic drug, such as phenobarbitone, has not previously been reported.
