The Many Guises of Pheochromocytoma: Insights from a Case Report
Abstract
Pheochromocytoma is a rare neuroendocrine tumor with heterogeneous and often deadly clinical manifestations.
In this issue of the Southern Medical Journal, Anaforoglu et al1 report the first case in the literature of myoglobinuric acute renal failure in a patient with bilateral, probably familial, pheochromocytoma. The case not only adds to the more than 80 described clinical manifestations of pheochromocytoma but also illustrates the clinical import that advances in biochemical diagnosis, genetics, anesthesia, and surgical technique have in the current management of pheochromocytoma.
