The Role of Anticipation in Patient Adherence
Abstract
Poor medication adherence is a problem in all medical disciplines and results in inadequate treatment outcomes andavoidable healthcare costs, leading to an estimated burden of billions of dollars per year. This is particularly true in the field of dermatology, which relies heavily on long-term topical therapies for chronic diseases such as psoriasis, in which treatment failure can lead to the introduction of stronger, more expensive systemic regimens; therefore, developing strategies that improve patient adherence to improve patient outcomes and reduce costs may be helpful.
