The Unseen Aesthetics of Double-decker Televisions: A Southernism
Abstract
With certainty, it can be said that the television set is not a recognizable, or even desirable, Southern cultural phenomenon. But, like it or not, televisions have become ubiquitous in the Southern home. These virtual carpetbaggers have contributed mightily in homogenizing the uniqueness of our rural identity...sullying our accents, making us crave things we don't need, and indoctrinating our children with an unspeakable vocabulary. Television makes us a fat and lazy bunch. In tandem with air-conditioning, television has all but killed our Southern front porches and the true concept of the neighborhood.This content is limited to qualifying members.
