Abstract
AbstractAlcoholism generally is considered a disease of people with psychologic disturbance. This article calls attention to the fact that alcohol is used nearly always for its pleasure-inducing effects. Its properties and use as a euphoriant are compared to heroin and the effects of stimulation of the theorized “pleasure center” in the brain by an electrode. The hypothesis is offered that alcohol has the quality of chemically stimulating the so-called pleasure center in most people and is used primarily for that purpose. This content is limited to qualifying members.
