Adenomyomatous Polyp of the Stomach

Authors: SHELDON J. TAUB, MD, DONALD S. HORSBURGH, MD

Abstract

ADENOMYOMA of the stomach, a benign tumor located in the distal antrum, is uncommon, with only 33 reported cases. Two major gastrointestinal textbooks fail to acknowledge its existence.1,2 Although more than 90% of tumors of the stomach are malignant, recognition that benign tumors, including the adenomyoma, exist may save the patient from an extensive operation.
