Broadening the Scope of Our Medical Journalism

Authors: G. Richard Holt, MD, MSE, MPH, MABE

Abstract

The reader will note in this issue a new format for the classification of manuscripts. We wish to broaden the topic emphasis in the Southern Medical Journal to include a wider range of content material that will be of interest to the diverse specialty needs of our readers. Since its inception, the Journal has been noted for its emphasis on general medical articles, and has successfully provided challenging and applicable clinical material. However, as the medical profession continues to diversify, while at the same time requiring interdisciplinary care of the patient, it is fitting that the Journal reflect these changes. Our profession is one of ever-widening clinical challenges, as diseases evolve alongside the expansion of technology and knowledge. We wish to provide the opportunity to address a wider range of clinical topics in our publications.
