Carotid Body Tumors: A I 6-Year Follow-up of Seven Malignant Cases

Abstract

Abstract: Thirty cases of carotid body tumor are presented, 28 having been followed for an average of 11 years. Seven eventually developed regional lymph node or distant metastases. Follow-up on these seven patients averages 16 years from the onset of symptoms. Two died of their disease. Three have painful, debilitating involvement of the base of the skull and cranial nerves. This report further illustrates the natural history and biologic nature of this tumor.
