Abstract

Abstract: A total of 73 patients admitted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center because of drug overdose was evaluated for dermographism. Twenty-eight patients (38%) showed an abnormal reaction to stroking with a tongue blade; 19 (26%) demonstrated dermographism, and nine (12%) showed erythema and flare. It is believed that this simple clinical test may be of help in indicating drug overdose in a comatose patient.
