Abstract

The hand is a most important functional unit of the body. A loss in its functional efficiency may have an important psychologic impact. Not only is the effect of anatomic distortion and crippling traumatic to the patient's emotional structure, but the socioeconomic loss may be great and add further to the overall psychiatric considerations of injuries to the hand.
