Abstract

ABSTRACTMetastatic tumors of the spleen are rare and usually occur in the presence of disseminated visceral metastases. The liver is the most common site of metastatic spread from colon cancer. We report a case of isolated intrasplenic metastasis from sigmoid colon cancer and review the possible reasons for the rarity of splenic metastasis. This represents the fifth reported case of isolated splenic metastasis from colon cancer. Splenectomy may be justified in presence of isolated metastatic disease, since it is an operation with a low complication rate and may provide potential long-term survival in colon cancer.
