Primary Amebic Meningoencephalitis: A Potential Problem in the Southeastern United States

Abstract

The authors call attention to this entity which has been reported from the southern states upon occasion. The clinical features are of a disease with an abruptonst, preceded by a story of swimming in fresh water and of nasal symptoms thought to represent an acute upper respiratory infetion. Death has been usual though seemingly amphotericin B has been effective in a few early cases.
