Regional Enteritis and Growth Retardation Without Intestinal Symptoms

Authors: JOHN W. DONALD, MD, JAMES G. DONALD, MD

Abstract

Severe growth failure associated with regional enteritis can occur even in the absence of intestinal symptoms. This association is more likely when the disease is present in the jejunum or proximal ileum. Accordingly, roengenographic barium study of the small bowel is essential in the diagnosis of this occult condition. In the investigation of growth retardation, even in the absence of intestinal symptoms, a careful search for regional enteritis should be made. A case report of this complication and teh result following resection are included in this presentation.
