Smoking and Health: Florida's Approach to the Problem

Authors: JAMES E. FULGHUM, M.D.

Abstract

Florida has faced the incontrovertible evidence that cigarette smoking has a large role in the pathogenesis of carcinoma of the lung, larynx and mouth, pulmonary emphysema and coronary artery disease. It faces, too, the probability of greater success in prophylaxis, avoidance of the habit in youth, than in breaking the habit in the confirmed smoker.
