Abstract

AbstractA proposed expanded system of the Telephone Consultation and Education in Cancer System will be sponsored jointly by the Southern Medical Association, based in Birmingham, Ala; the M. D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute, Houston; and the Texas State Department of Health. Support is from the National Cancer Institute. Envisioned is an expansion of an existing system to permit physicians and other health scientists to better serve cancer patients and to enhance cancer education in the area of influence of the Southern Medical Association,—the 17-state area of the Southeast from Texas to, and including, the District of Columbia. Originality in methodology is not claimed, but the application of this unique cancer educational program under the joint sponsorship of a categorical cancer institute and a large, nonprofit professional society does provide potentially a new dimension in professional education.
