The Effect of Nicotine Upon Ureteral Peristalsis
Abstract
Experimentally it has been shown that not only does the topical application of nicotine to the renal pelvis and ureter stimulate ureteral hyperperistalsis, but that its intravenous injection does likewise. Inhalation of cigar smoke has a somewhat lesser effect. The authors thus offer evidence that the control of ureteral peristalsis is neurogenic through the sympathetic adrenergic system.This content is limited to qualifying members.
