On “Predictors of Blood Transfusion in Patients Undergoing Cytoreductive Surgeries for Ovarian Malignancy”
Abstract
To the Editor: We appreciate the work of Pearce et al regarding the predictors of perioperative blood transfusion in patients undergoing cytoreductive surgery for ovarian cancer.1 They found that patients with lower preoperative hemoglobin and higher intraoperative estimated blood loss (EBL) were at greater risk of needing a blood transfusion. Blood transfusions confer an increased risk of complications, including venous thromboembolisms, cancer recurrence, and mortality.1This content is limited to qualifying members.
